On the surface, everyone wants optimal health, but we see people promoting illness in various ways.
Pain can remind us of moments we must remember to never repeat. Sickness invites the attention of caregivers - something we may not have had enough of in our youth. Perhaps we simply want to take time off from the work of life and be left alone to think for awhile. The motivations to be ill are endless and unique to every individual.
And yet, those who can honestly see and resolve their impulses to remain sick heal faster.
Today's mindfulness challenge is to seek this wisdom. With curiosity, love, and nonjudgement, try to understand the motivation to remain sick or in pain. Release the impulse by meeting those needs in a more direct, healthier way.
