Perhaps our Civil War president was thinking about choosing a side, but I think it's more important to know who we are and align with our values individually. "Sides" are oppositional in nature and lead to things like Civil Wars. I don't need to agree with everyone on every issue to be part of a caring community. Our diversity is a strength.
